If you’re constantly asking your friends to recommend new music to you, Apple has a new discovery mix that’s right up your alley.
The company launched a new Apple Music feature called the Friends Mix, which creates a mix of 25 songs that your Apple Music friends have listened to recently, 9to5Mac reported Tuesday.
9to5Mac notes that this doesn’t seem to be tied to a specific iOS update.
Apple Music is the tech giant’s answer to Spotify and includes access to millions of streaming songs. Apple Music also features playlists that help you find songs you might like based on your tastes. A discovery feature also helps you find tracks you might never come across.
Other discovery mixes available in Music are Favorites Mix, New Music Mix and Chill Mix, each of them updating on a different weekday. Just like Friends Mix, they’re all available under “For You” in Apple Music.
The Friends Mix gives us a glimpse of the social angle to Apple Music going one level deeper, which means that you might want to start curating the people you’re following in order to get better song recommendations on some of these playlists.
At the moment Apple Music is locked in a battle with Spotify to become the world’s most popular music streaming service.
Spotify has 83 million paying subscribers against Apple Music’s 50 million as revealed by Apple CEO Tim Cook in May, but the latter entered the market much later and appears to be have overtaken its rival in some key markets such as the US already.
